With time at home still the ideal and beautiful Autumn days like these, now is the perfect time to get out in the garden. Not only good for our bodies, time spent outdoors, surrounded by nature is good for our mental health and wellbeing. And what’s more, gardening is an activity that the entire family can take part in and enjoy together.
There are all kinds of garden tools on the market to get the job done. We’ve found some particularly beautiful tools that will make your experience just that little more special…
Grafa garden design tools are handmade locally in Melbourne’s inner west by a passionate gardener named Travis. Travis was originally inspired by the work of the Austrian naturalistic movement, which showed that using copper tools could benefit soils in agriculture.
In crafting his creations, he uses readily available copper, bronze and hardwood timber materials. Much of the copper is up-cycled, reclaimed tube collected from metal recycling centres around Melbourne. Copper is mainly used because it is malleable enough to shape but being a single tube, it is still strong enough to handle years in the garden. It is also infinitely recyclable – even 50% of new copper is made from recycled copper.
Bronze is used for the tool heads on the timber handle range because of its toughness, strength, low coefficient of friction and fine grain.
The tools were specifically designed with organic and biodynamic gardening principles in mind. Copper does not rust and its properties are found to promote growth and nutrient uptake.
We love that something that looks this good can be as equally good for the garden.
