Camberwell Property
The design brief for this garden was simple, the clients wanted to bring their traditional home into the 21st century yet still maintain the integrity of its surroundings. Starting with the back garden we needed an entertaining area for a minimum of eight with enough room for a portable BBQ, lawn for the dog (Monty), swimming pool and a small herb garden. The main material being bluestone was a decision that wasn’t taken lightly, it was chosen due to it’s durability in relation to Monty and we felt it was the best surface to complement the house and era. The swimming pool colour was another decision that wasn’t easy. With the clients very conscious of resale, choosing to go with a black interior was a tough one. In the end we believed that the quartz interior rather than fully tiled would soften the dark interior, yet give the garden a modern touch. The planting scheme was a one of formality; the pears (Pyrus calleryana ‘Chanticleer’) act as a beautiful backdrop but also act as a screen from the buildings beyond.
